…”ROMERIA”- 7th of September”…

If you want to know the culture and canarian traditions  you can not miss the 7th of September in the island of Gran Canaria.

That day is celebrated in the village of Teror, one of the biggest parties on the island in honor of its patron saint Our Lady of pine. “ What is done is a romeria in which each municipality of the island and other islands make a cart with a small offering tothe Virgin. In this type of traditional festivities, people, adults, teens and children are dressed with typical Canarian clothes and go behind the wagon with a group playing and singing canarian music, with its typical instruments like the timple.”

During the summer there are many romerias“ but maybe this is the most important, people as well which makes a promise to the Virgin, make a peregrination of about 15 kilometers or so to get to church and see the virgin.

…MOGAN…

Mogan is a mixture of a fishing village with its fishing port. Tourism development is quality oriented around a beautiful marina, known as Little Venice.

…SANTA ANA SQUARE AND THE CATHEDRAL…

The Cathedral of Santa Ana is located in the old city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, called Vegueta.

Here we find one of the most important centers of the city, the cathedral and its square.Around this area, formerly were all activities of the city.
Nowadys, the buildings still exist then and the main function of cultural and historical interest. We can say that these historic homes surround the ”Santa Ana Square”. From this square, we can see the magnificent cathedral  neoclassical.

In this square, there are always people, youth, children, adults  it is a nice place to spend a wonderful afternoon. Various events are held here when the parties in town, so perhaps calling enough attention. Although perhaps most striking about this square is the bronze canary dogs preceded the square and its position seems to guard the cathedral. These dogs are very famous not only for tourists but also for the canaries, as everybody who has come to this place has taken a picture with these decorative and historical dogs.

Finally say, very close to the cathedral we find the market  and one of the most famous streets of Gran Canaria, TRIANA. In this street you will find  all kinds of shops, terraces and restaurants.

…TEROR…

The photos posted in the previous post and now are in a town called Teror (GranCanaria).

Teror, is a place that characterizes very well what is the Canarian culture or at least part of it. The people there are very nice and close.
The beauty of this place is unparalleled. It has a traditional Canarian architecture, with beautiful balconies, attractive market that attracts many visitors each Sunday.

In addition to the basilica of this people encuntra Our Lady of the Pine, the patron saintof Gran Canaria. In September, a big party in her honor. However, this event will discuss on another occasion.

Finally, I must say that in Teror is made a chorizo very famous call  chorizo de Teror and also on base mineral water called “Agua de  Teror”. This water flows from aspring in the area.

Everyone who comes to visit Teror usually sit around the church to eat a sandwich of “chorizo” . You have to taste it!

Around this village there is a big natural area called OSORIO  where you can go there for a walk and know more about canarian nature, and of course if you like you can go to the top of Osorio… you’ll find fantastics views

… LOS JAMEOS DEL AGUA…

“Los jameos del agua” are located in the north of the island of Lanzarote, and it’s one of the seven Centres of Art, Culture and tourism of Lanzarote. These are found in the tunnel produced by the volcanic eruption of the Crown.

We must also say that “jameos” was created by one of the most relevant artist of Canary, Mr.Cesar Manrique. So we can say that this place is a mix of natural and man-made.

In jameos we can find the tiny blind crabs called albinosbecause its white color.

This place will like to adults and children.
